Juneau’s community risk level raises to Level 2 Moderate

Due to increasing case positivity, the City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is raising the overall community risk to Level 2 Moderate with a full implementation of the Community Mitigation Strategies. Heightened case activity has pushed both the 7- and 14-day case rates into the Very High alert category and community spread based cases continue to occur at an increasing rate.

The following measures go into effect on Friday, July 23 at 12 p.m.:

• Indoor gatherings are limited to 50 people with masks required, unless a COVID-19 mitigation plan is submitted and approved by the CBJ Emergency Operations Center or all individuals at the gathering are fully vaccinated. Outdoor gatherings are recommended.
• Indoor service at bars must not exceed 50% capacity.
• Restaurants are strongly recommended to reduce capacity to ensure physical distancing between parties and are recommended to require reservations. Delivery and curbside pickup is also encouraged.
• Personal service businesses must require appointments and no waiting areas.
• Gyms are limited to 50% capacity.

The following measures continue to be in place:

• Masks must be worn indoors in public areas and outdoors at crowded events by individuals not fully vaccinated, and it is strongly encouraged for fully vaccinated individuals. Everyone, regardless of vaccination status, is required to wear masks in CBJ facilities, on Capital Transit/CAPITAK AKcess, in the Juneau International Airport, Juneau School District facilities, and Bartlett Regional Hospital.
• All travelers are recommended to either take a pre-travel test or a free COVID-19 airport test. Unvaccinated travelers should avoid indoor public areas and crowded locations until you get your test result and return to the airport for a follow-up test in 5-14 days.

Juneau currently has 80 active cases of COVID-19 – 72 are residents and eight are nonresidents.
