Temperatures hovered yesterday right around the point of freezing. Eaglecrest Summit was slightly below while the Mt Roberts Tram stayed right at freezing and slightly and above.

Yesterday we saw right about 13mm of precip at Mt Roberts which added 7cm of new snow that has since settled to about 4. You can assume at mountain top levels we receiced slightly more new snow.

Winds were strong during this event ranging from 10-30mph. out of our traditional SSE.

Temperatures cooled off yesterday afternoon and are currently -2c at the Tram Summit and -3c at the Eaglecrest Summit.

Yesterday several wet avalanches were reported. Some were point release avalanches that propagated to slab avalanches. Most however simply gouged deeper and entrained more mass as they continued downslope.

We did get report of several larger avalanches on North facing slopes around the region. These paths had windloaded over the last few cycles with our traditional wind pattern. This creates additional concern that we should be aware of as recreationalists.

Spring is here, temperatures are spending serveral hours a day above freezing. Be aware that with additional rains or additional warming these wet avalanches dont take much to get going.

With not much new precip in the forecast today avalanche danger is Moderate.

Natural avalanches are not likely yet during the warmer period of the day they are still possible. Human triggered avalanches remain possible especially in windloaded pockets or during the heat of the day.

Start to think spring avalanches, wet avalanches and choose your routes wisely.

Have a great day.

Tip:

wet-snow avalanche - (or wet avalanche) - an avalanche consisting of snow which contains liquid water. In many instances, an avalanche will begin as a dry snow avalanche but turn into a wet snow avalanche as it descends to lower elevations.
