Proposal of Usage:
Juneau Composts LLC is a food scrap and yard debris composting service. We currently serve 130+ house holds and 7 businesses, and we divert about 2,000 pounds of material from the landfill each week. We would like to lease this lot so we can expand our reach to serve more of Juneau. At this site we would be able to accept large volumes of yard debris and wood chips, which are currently landfilled or stockpiled and unused on other sites. With this increase in carbon availability we would be able to handle a much higher volume of food scraps. Composting has the potential to divert about 30% of material from the landfill, so it's pretty important work! In addition to diverting from the landfill, composting also recaptures nutrients and provides a soil amendment and growing medium for local food producers.

The site would have moveable fabric structures on concrete pony walls. The compost process would happen in these covered bays. Stable (non-prutrid) debris would be stockpiled in bays, while food scraps would be processed on site immediately. The site would be open to the public on a limited basis--for a few hours on Saturdays--to accept yard debris. Contractors (landscapers, tree trimmers etc.) would have more open access once a protocol with each contractor is established.
