Project Overview

This planned project includes the installation of new timber bullrails and new safety railing along the full length of the wharf from Marine Park to the Tram building.  The project planning phase will consider how the public currently uses the waterfront, and look at improvements such as converting the existing dolphins to seating areas.

Project Background

Prior to the 2016 construction of the floating cruise ship berths, the ships moored directly alongside the wharf.  No pedestrian safety railing was installed along the seaward edge of the wharf because such a railing would have interfered with line-handling operations while the cruise ships were docking and casting off from the wharf.  Now that the cruise ships tie up to the pontoons, the wharf is no longer a "working wharf" and pedestrian safety railing can be installed.
