UPDATED: How and when to use the Juneau Airport testing site & what to do after testing

The City and Borough of Juneau administers COVID-19 testing at the Juneau International Airport for the following purposes:

• Travelers arriving from out-of-state without an accepted COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure (testing is free for Alaska residents; testing costs $250 for nonresidents). This is part of the State of Alaska’s COVID-19 Health Order 6.
• Follow-up testing 5-14 days after arrival. This is recommended under Health Order 6.
• Alaska residents arriving to Juneau from within the state. This is strongly encouraged by CBJ’s Emergency Operations Center per COVID-19 Community Mitigation Strategies.
• Alaska residents in Juneau traveling to an Alaska community that recommends or requires testing prior to entry. Local communities may enact travel restrictions under the state’s COVID-19 Health Order 8.
• Alaska residents in Juneau planning to travel to a community off the ferry or road system. This is required under the state’s Health Order 8.
• Alaska residents in Juneau traveling on intrastate Alaska Marine Highway System mainline routes. This is required by the Alaska Marine Highway System.

Aside from testing conducted upon arrival into the Juneau airport, airport testing can be done by making an appointment here and returning to the airport 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. daily. Please note the recent change in testing hours.

All testing at the airport – except for nonresident arrival test – is free. Tests are currently sent for processing to Fulgent Genetics, a commercial lab located in Southern California, and results take 2-4 days.

What to do after your arrival test

Under Health Order No. 6, which went into effect November 16, Alaska residents and nonresidents arriving from out of state without negative test results must strict social distance for 5 days and continue to strict social distance if test results have not been received after 5 days. A second test taken between five and 14 days after arrival is recommended, but not required.

Strict social distancing means you:

• Don’t go indoors anywhere, except inside your own home or Juneau accommodation.
• Don’t socialize with anyone who is not a member of your household.
• When outdoors, wear a face covering and stay six feet away from anyone not in your household.
• Don’t participate in any group activities, including sporting events and practices, weddings, funerals, or other gatherings.

For Alaska residents getting tested after in-state travel, CBJ’s Emergency Operations Center strongly recommends (but does not require) those travelers strict social distance for 5 days and continue to strict social distance if test results have not been received after 5 days.
