Sustainability webinar series kicks off March 25 with cruise ship air quality presentation

Learn about local sustainability issues through the Juneau Commission on Sustainability’s lunchtime webinar series, which kicks off Thursday, March 25, 12-1 pm, with a presentation, “How is Juneau’s Air Quality?” Join via Zoom for a 30-minute presentation followed by Q&A: https://juneau.zoom.us/j/94169483593.

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) set up air quality sensors in Downtown Juneau to track emissions from cruise ships and other sources. DEC’s Kayl Overcast will provide an update on the Coastal Community Monitoring Project, present the results from the 2019 monitoring season, and discuss next steps for the monitoring project.

The lunchtime webinar series will occur the fourth Thursday of each month from 12-1 p.m. Each session will feature a guest presenter, who will speak for 30 minutes on a topic related to sustainability, followed by 30 minutes for Q&A. Upcoming sessions include:

  • Thursday, April 22: The Juneau Renewable Energy Strategy and Juneau Climate Implementation and Action Plans – presented by the Juneau Commission on Sustainability
  • Thursday, May 27: Juneau Solid Waste 101 – presented by CBJ Public Works Engineer Lori Sowa
