Starting Sept. 12 at noon, Juneau bars required to close & restaurants to reduce capacity

September 11, 2020 – News

Due to increasing case positivity, the City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is raising the overall community risk to Level 3 High with a partial implementation of the Community Mitigation Strategies. Effective Saturday, September 12 at noon the “Bars and Restaurants” category of the Community Mitigation Strategies is in effect. The EOC will closely monitor the situation and determine whether additional Level 3 strategies are appropriate.

By Emergency Public Health Order, the following measures are effective as of 12 p.m. Saturday, September 12:

  • Bars are required to close for indoor service
  • Restaurants must reduce indoor capacity to 50% of normal and require reservations. Delivery and curbside pickup is encouraged.

The community is currently experiencing heighted case activity resulting in part from exposure in bars. Case activity has pushed both the 7- and 14-day case rates into the high alert category and community spread based cases continue to occur at an increasing rate. Cases are identified as community spread when a source case cannot be identified, which indicates undetected spread.

The EOC reminds community members to maintain social distance and wear a cloth face covering in any indoor setting where individuals outside of your immediate family/social bubble are present.
