Snowy weather reminders from CBJ Streets Maintenance

October 25, 2021 – News

As Juneau moves into the colder months, the City and Borough of Juneau Streets & Fleet Maintenance Division has these reminders and requests for drivers:

  • Check parking signs carefully before leaving vehicles. Parking becomes more restrictive in snowy months so you’ll want to make sure that you find out what the rules are before you park.
  • In addition to permanent signage, the Streets Division also utilizes temporary yellow No Parking signs. These temporary signs are typically used after winter storm events to facilitate efficient snow hauling operations. If a vehicle is left in a No Parking area, it may be towed. If your vehicle is towed, contact the CBJ Streets & Fleet Maintenance Division at 907-586-5256 for further assistance.
  • When the snow starts falling, residents are asked not to park vehicles in a manner that prevents snowplows from plowing an area. Snow cannot be removed from streets that are not passable for snowplows. Removing vehicles from roadways is extremely helpful.
  • Mendenhall Valley snowplow routes are often performed in tandem formation. There may be a delay between the first and second pass to fully clear the roadway. Please wait until the roadway is completely plowed before removing your snow berm. Not only is this safe practice, but it will also eliminate the chances of having to remove a snow berm twice (first pass berm and second pass berm).

In the snowy months, the highest priority for CBJ Streets & Fleet Maintenance is keeping the streets safe and clear. Please keep these reminders in mind and do your part.
