Sigoowu Ye Park Closed Temporarily for Safety Upgrades
Starting September 15, 2026, Sigoowu Ye Park will be temporarily closed for the safety of park users and to prevent further damage to playground infrastructure caused by bike use in the park. During the closure, City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) staff will be working to install chicane rails at the entrances to prevent the use of bikes in the park.
After Sigoowu Ye Park reopened in August, CBJ began receiving reports that reckless bike riders were scaring and running into young park users. The bike use has also caused damage to the new playground surface. While additional signage was installed to remind visitors that bikes are not allowed in the park, the signs were recently found vandalized and the dangerous bike activity continued.
To protect the safety of all park users, CBJ Parks & Recreation has made the difficult decision to temporarily close the playground until additional safety precautions are complete. During the closure, you can find other parks to visit at the Parks & Recreation’s Find a Park website.
