Riverbend Elementary School update

January 13, 2022 – News

Riverbend Elementary School was inspected for water damage today, January 13, following flooding at the school. The Juneau School District was notified that cleanup and repairs will take several weeks. Tomorrow, staff members will pack up classrooms to prepare for construction crews. Flooring, carpet, and drywall need to be removed and replaced in most of the school.

Plans are underway for alternative methods for instruction, including possible alternative locations. Strategies for food service, materials and device distribution, student learning, and afterschool programs are being developed as quickly as possible.

What the district knows for sure is that students will not be able to attend school in person at Riverbend tomorrow – Friday, January 14 – or Tuesday, January 18. (Monday is a school holiday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.)

An update will be sent out to Riverbend families and posted at juneauschools.org and rbes.juneauschools.org on Monday, January 17.
