Reminder: Free flu shot clinics this weekend, Oct. 24 & 25

Don’t forget to get a flu shot. Flu vaccination for everyone six months and older is part of a comprehensive public health strategy to reduce the burden of flu and preserve resources for COVID-19 patients and others who may need health care. Two free flu shot clinics this weekend make it even easier to get the shot:

• October 24 Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic in the Thunder Mountain High School parking lot, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • For ages 9 to adult
  • Please wear a mask and a short sleeve shirt.
  • Please bring a pen and a writing surface to make the interaction as contactless as possible.
  • Enter the clinic through the back entrance of TMHS (See the traffic flow map here)

• October 25 Flu Shot Clinic in the Floyd Dryden Middle School gym, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • For ages 6 months to adult
  • People ages 2 and up must wear a mask inside Floyd Dryden
  • Please have anyone who’s getting a shot wear a short sleeve shirt
  • Please bring your own pen

Flu vaccine is safe and has a proven track record of reducing influenza infections. While it does not prevent all flu illness, it greatly reduces the chances of getting the flu and also helps prevent serious illness, hospitalization, and deaths associated with flu. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for the body to build immunity against the flu. If you have concerns about whether flu vaccine is right for you, please contact your health care provider.

The October 24 and 25 free flu shot clinics are organized by the Alaska Division of Public Health, Bartlett Regional Hospital, City and Borough of Juneau, and Juneau School District. While providing the public with free flu vaccines, these two events also serve as an emergency exercise for distributing a large amount of vaccines or medications to a large amount of people.
