Red Flag warning and burn ban in effect

June 2, 2022 – News

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag warning for Juneau and surrounding areas from 10 AM until 9 PM today, Thursday, June 2.

A warning means that severe fire weather conditions are already occurring or imminent due to a combination of warm weather, low humidity, and wind. The National Weather Service advises that these conditions are anticipated persist through Friday.

Capital City Fire Rescue has implemented a burn ban. The burn ban is effective at 10:00 AM on Thursday June 2 and will continue through Friday June 3 at 9:00 PM.

This open burning ban includes: permitted residential fires, land clearing fires and recreational camp fires. This ban does not extend to barbeques and other cooking devices.

CCFR advises to use caution with the disposal of cigarettes and cigars. Smoking materials placed in flower pots/planters or in areas with vegetation may start fires several hours after disposal.
