Planning Commission meets May 14. Here’s how to weigh in.
The City and Borough of Juneau Planning Commission meets on May 14, 7 p.m. in City Hall Assembly Chambers to review and make recommendations to the Assembly regarding requests to rezone parcels in West Juneau and on Thunder Mountain Road. Both of these items are up for public hearing.
A request to rezone a large parcel of land in West Juneau (AME2018 0014)
The applicant requests a rezone of 27.88 acres of a currently vacant tract of land from D-5 Residential to D-18 Residential. The applicant states the intent is to develop the lower portion of the site with multi-family housing and the upper portion of the site with small, single family homes or stand-alone, multi-family housing on commonly owned land. The site is accessed by Vista Drive.
An amendment to a Comprehensive Plan map to conform to a recommended rezone on Thunder Mountain Road (AME2019 0004)
On March 18, 2019, the Planning Commission recommended the Assembly approve AME2019 0002: A rezone request to change 41,985 square feet located at 8479, 8477, 8476 Thunder Mountain Road from D5 to D18. The Commission also concluded that an amendment to Comprehensive Plan Map G would be necessary in order to establish ‘substantial conformity’ with the land use designation of Medium Density Residential. This would then allow the Assembly to approve AME2019 0002.
