Planning Commission meets April 23. Here’s how to weigh in.
The City and Borough of Juneau Planning Commission meets on April 23, 7 p.m. in City Hall Assembly Chambers to consider a permit for an accessory apartment and to consider allowing a portion of an additional story on top of an existing structure. These items are up for public hearing. They will also hear a presentation regarding CBJ Title 53.
The public is encouraged to submit written comments to [email protected] by 12 noon, April 19, or testify in person at the meeting. For more information related to these agenda items click here.
An accessory apartment on an undersized lot on West 11th Street (USE2019 0007)
The applicant requests a Conditional Use Permit for an accessory apartment on a substandard lot in the D5 zoning district. The proposal is to finish a 320 square foot portion of the existing basement as a studio apartment intended for long-term, year-round rental to one, or possibly two people.
An additional story on top of an existing structure on Thane Road (USE2019 0008)
The applicant previously received a variance to encroach into their setback in order to develop a portion of their home’s lower level. Now they request an Up-Fill Conditional Use Permit in order to make improvements to the story above including adding heated floors to the arctic entryway. The arctic entry would then be considered “living space” rather than an “unheated structure” which triggers the need for the Conditional Use Permit.
