Parks & Rec partnering with Juneau Park Foundation to build a cabin at Amalga

The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the new Juneau Park Foundation to improve local parks, playgrounds, trails, and public spaces. The foundation’s first project is to build a public use cabin at Amalga Meadows Park accessible off the Eagle Valley Center trail. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Juneau Park Foundation. We know people love Juneau’s public use cabins. Demand is so high that it’s often hard to find one, and only three are easily accessible from the road system. This new cabin will help meet demand, and combines easy access with a scenic, secluded location,” Parks & Rec Director George Schaaf said.

The new cabin will be a short 10-15 minute walk from the Eagle Valley Center parking lot, located off Amalga Harbor Road at 25 mile Glacier Highway. To access the cabin, Parks & Rec will be working with Trail Mix to create a 500-foot trail off the existing trail to Eagle Landing Beach. The goal is to have the cabin completed by the end of this summer.
