Most Juneau schools will reopen Thursday; Riverbend remains closed due to flooding
Due to improved road and sidewalk conditions, Juneau School District schools – with the exception of Riverbend Elementary School – will reopen tomorrow, Thursday, January 13. Classes, activities, and afterschool programs will return to normal operations.
School buses may run a little late as they travel through neighborhoods. School buses are currently not able to transport students to or from Thane Road due to high avalanche danger.
Riverbend Elementary School remains closed to students. Repair and cleanup work continues after flooding at the school. The building will be inspected for water damage on Thursday. The district anticipates students will be able to attend on Friday, but won’t know for sure until tomorrow afternoon. Riverbend families will be updated on Thursday afternoon, January 13, about the plan for reopening the school to students.
