Mendenhall River flooding update (8/6 6:30 AM)
The Mendenhall River crested at 15.99 feet early this morning, at 3:15 a.m Tuesday, August 6. Many Valley residents experienced significant flooding, displacement, and property damage.
The water is currently receding rapidly. We expect to be out of the moderate flood stage by late morning.
The hours at the Floyd Dryden emergency shelter have been extended through Tuesday afternoon and the shelter remains available for displaced residents.
Please report fuel oil spills to the Alaska State Department of Environmental Conservation at either reportspills.alaska.gov or by calling 1-800-478-9300
CBJ public works crews and JPD/CCFR emergency teams continue to monitor the situation and respond to emergencies. Please continue to stay away from impacted areas.
