Juneau’s 14-day COVID-19 recap: Sept. 7 – Sept. 20

Over the 14-day period from September 7 to September 20, 56 people in Juneau tested positive for COVID-19:

• Public Health attributed 43 percent of the cases to community spread. That means these individuals had no known contact to a positive case and hadn’t recently traveled within or out of state. Their exposure may be due to undiagnosed and/or asymptomatic cases in the community. This figure is up from 30 percent from last week.
• A number of the cases tie back to a large social gathering in August that included guests who work in bars in Juneau. Overall, about 39 people associated with this cluster have tested positive, though some of those positives fall outside of this reporting period.
• The average number of close contacts per positive case is 2.76. More than 90 percent of individuals with COVID-19 cases were contacted within 24 hours of a positive test being returned.
• Of the 56 positive cases during the last 14-day period, 30 were identified as secondary transmission, 24 were identified as community spread, and two were identified as travel-related.
