Juneau’s 14-day COVID-19 recap: Nov. 9 – Nov. 22

Over the 14-day period from November 9 to November 22, there were 112 people in Juneau who tested positive for COVID-19 (that’s up from 97 during the previous two weeks):

• 14 percent of cases from this time period are associated with ongoing clusters. The University of Alaska Southeast had eight cases. In addition, a cluster of households resulted in 10 positive cases. The remaining cases were due to travel and transmission among close friends and family.
• Public Health attributed 41 percent of cases to secondary transmission, 25 percent to community spread, 14.5 percent to out-of-state travel, and 19.5 percent of the cases remain under investigation.
• Contact tracing is impaired due to the statewide caseload; 75 percent of cases were contacted within 24 hours of a positive test being returned.
• Disease spread is across all age groups, most racial groups (individuals who self-identified as white and individuals who self-identified as Alaska Native are highest, each with 49), and is slightly more prevalent in males than females (53 percent/47 percent).

Contact tracing remains impaired due to the statewide caseload. The disease is moving via travel and family groupings. Community spread is increasing. Residents must take appropriate cautions, including limiting social bubbles to immediate family members. Those who test positive are urged to immediately call their own close contacts.
