Juneau School District delays expansion of in-person learning

November 13, 2020 – News

The Juneau School District has decided to delay the introduction of regular education students into schools for in-person instruction. Last week, the district announced kindergarten students returning to the classroom as soon as November 30. Now, regular education in-person learning will begin no earlier than January 11. The decision was made in response to Governor Mike Dunleavy’s emergency message yesterday morning regarding the rapid spread of COVID-19 around the state.

In the meantime, district teachers will continue to deliver distance instruction for students. Current in-person opportunities for programs like Kinder Ready, Montessori Borealis Children’s House, internet support, RALLY, and some special education services that have been possible due to effective mitigation strategies will continue at this time. The district will continue to monitor local health conditions and operational status of these programs could change at any point.

More details can be found at juneauschools.org under “JSD Update on In Person Learning.”

The district appreciates the patience of staff, students, and families as adjustments are made due to COVID-19 limitations.
