Join Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton in Juneau and Raise Money for Cancer Research

June 28, 2023 – News

Starting now, join local skaters to Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ and help raise money for cancer research through the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation (CARES) and Juneau’s Cancer Connection. Figure skating legend and Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton has partnered with CBJ Parks & Recreation’s Treadwell Arena for a peer-to-peer fundraising effort to support CARES Foundation’s research and Cancer Connection, a grassroots non-profit organization working to assist Alaskans living with cancer. Hamilton will travel to Juneau this September for several days of events as part of the campaign.

Funds raised will support CARES’ national research project, currently focused on pediatric glioblastoma brain tumors, as well as Cancer Connection’s travel assistance program, providing financial grants for expenses related to cancer care services outside Southeast Alaska.

We’ll celebrate our success with a fun-filled weekend of special events September 29 – October 1, including a Remembrance Walk, 3 v 3 youth hockey, adult pond hockey, open skate, and a skating show featuring local and elite skaters emceed by Scott Hamilton. Everyone in Juneau—skater or not—is invited to take part and join a community-wide effort to make a difference for those living with cancer.

Stay tuned for more information about the events, including special guest skaters. Registration is required to participate in events; all admission fees go toward fundraising goals.
