Join Juneau Rotary Clubs for Fish Creek shelter ribbon-cutting on August 21

August 16, 2024 – News

The Rotary Clubs of Juneau will celebrate the completion of the new Fish Creek Park shelter with a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, August 21 at 6 p.m. The community is invited to join for a first look at the newest addition to Juneau’s outdoor recreation facilities.

The shelter is located just off the Fish Creek Park parking lot at 11100 North Douglas Highway. Former Juneau Rotary Club president Jamie Waste, Rotary District 5010 Governor Brenda Shelden, Mayor Beth Weldon, and Juneau Park Foundation board member John Pugh will say a few words at the event.

The shelter will be open for use on a first-come, first-served basis for the rest of the summer and available for reservations beginning this fall.

The Fish Creek Park shelter is the latest joint Juneau Rotary project, selected each year by the Rotary Clubs of Juneau—Juneau Rotary, Juneau-Gastineau Rotary, Glacier Valley Rotary, and 58° Innovators—to benefit the community. The opportunity was identified through the CBJ Parks & Recreation Master Plan.

The shelter was completed thanks to the labor of over 40 Rotary volunteers and generous donations of materials, services, and funding from:

  • Alaska Marine Lines
  • Benito and Frances Gaguine Foundation
  • Icy Straits Lumber
  • Juneau Community Foundation
  • Juneau Parks Foundation
  • Juneau Rotary Clubs
  • Rotary District 5010
