Infrastructure Week culminates with Harbor Customer Appreciation Day

Join the City and Borough of Juneau Docks & Harbors Department in celebrating Infrastructure Week May 14-18. The goal of the week is to highlight the community’s reliance on critical infrastructure and how it impacts the local and regional economy, quality of life and safety. During its upcoming May 14 Regular Meeting, the Juneau Assembly will make a proclamation designating the week as Infrastructure Week.

Docks & Harbors will kick off the week Monday, May 14 at 11 a.m. with an informational session in City Hall Chambers. The speakers are Port Director Carl Uchytil, Harbormaster Dave Borg, Deputy Port Engineer Erich Schaal and Port Engineer Gary Gillette. The emphasis will be on harbor infrastructure requirements,  maintaining existing infrastructure and planning for the future.

The rest of the week will feature simple ceremonies at various Docks & Harbors facilities. The week culminates with a ribbon cutting and Customer Appreciation Day. Events take place at 12 p.m. noon:

  • Tuesday, May 15 at Statter Harbor Breakwater
    Ribbon Cutting for Breakwater Safety Improvements & Auke Bay Marine Station Efforts
  • Wednesday, May 16 at the Seawalk near the Downtown Library/Archipelago Lot
    Ribbon Cutting for Seawalk Safety Improvements & Cathodic Protection Project
  • Thursday, May 17 at Harris Harbor
    Ribbon Cutting for Harris Bathrooms & Ground Breaking for Taku Harbor Repairs
  • Friday, May 18 at Aurora Harbor
    Ribbon Cutting for Aurora Harbor Phase II &  Harbor Customer Appreciation Day featuring a cookout for the public and harbor patrons
