Flood warning for Mendenhall Lake until 4 p.m. Saturday

The National Weather Service in Juneau has issued a Flood Warning for rain and snowmelt around Mendenhall Lake until 4 p.m. Saturday. A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you live or recreate near or along Mendenhall Lake, stay alert and be prepared to take action.

Over 2 inches of rain has fallen in the last 12 hours. Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected over the area through the next 24 hours with possible higher amounts over higher terrain.

At 8:37 a.m. Mendenhall Lake was at 9.69 feet. Moderate Flood stage is 10 feet. NWS forecasts cresting around 11 ft over Friday night and then slowly falling into Saturday. Here are the impacts:

  • At 10.4 feet: Significant flooding along the Mendenhall Lake area with more than 3 feet of water in places and the Mendenhall campground will be evacuated. Some homes along View Drive will have up to 3 ft of water in yards.
  • At 10.9 feet: View Drive will be flooded and impassable with significant flooding to some homes in the area.
