COVID-19 case count update

August 17, 2020 – News

Over the weekend and today, the City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting 11 new people with COVID-19 in Juneau – nine residents and two nonresidents. Public Health is attributing seven of the resident cases to secondary transmission and the two other resident cases are under investigation. The nonresidents with COVID-19 are in the mining sector.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 149 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 91 nonresidents. Combined, there are 56 active cases in Juneau and 183 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There is currently one person with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

CBJ’s numbers – on cumulative case counts, and active and recovered cases – differ from the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services dashboard numbers due to more timely reporting. CBJ is in regular contact with the Public Health officials in Juneau, and CBJ’s numbers are based on information received directly from them.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 50 new people with COVID-19 – all 50 are residents. Alaska has had 4,309 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 801 nonresidents. The state reports a total of 28 deaths, including one new death reported over the weekend. The person who died was a male from Anchorage in his 80s with underlying conditions.
