Leadership structure at Bartlett hospital changes; chief clinical officer & interim chief financial officer appointed
Bartlett Regional Hospital has promoted Kim McDowell to the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) position and hired Robert Tyk as the Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Under the direction of Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jerel Humphrey, Bartlett has returned to its previous leadership structure with all clinical services under the direction of the re-established CCO position. Since June 2019, both a Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer position were in place.
Kim McDowell has been with Bartlett since 2015 and previously served as the Emergency Department Director before assuming the role of Chief Nursing Officer in 2021. “I have been very impressed with Kim’s ability to collaborate across different clinical departments to problem solve since I have been with Bartlett,” said CEO Jerel Humphrey. “I appreciate her willingness to take on this new role and am confident she has the support of our staff behind her to help her succeed.”
Robert “Bob” Tyk will be joining Bartlett at the end of February to assume the Interim CFO position. Mr. Tyk was selected through an interim leadership company and brings to Bartlett over 45 years of experience in the healthcare arena with over 30 of those years serving as a CFO or CEO. He has worked in hospital systems, physician group practices, and stand-alone hospitals ranging in size from 25-bed critical access hospitals to university-owned facilities. “My wife, Margy, and I have three children and eight grandchildren,” said incoming Interim CFO Bob Tyk. “Our oldest son and his family live in Anchorage so we have visited Alaska numerous times. We are looking forward to spending more time with them and exploring Southeast Alaska.”
The Hospital Board of Directors has formalized the recruitment effort to begin the nationwide search process to select a permanent CEO. Mr. Humphrey has been serving in an interim capacity since October 2021. The Board anticipates reviewing the final pool of candidates in late spring. Finalists will be invited to Juneau to visit the hospital and conduct their final interview.
