CBJ reports seven new COVID-19 cases in Juneau April 29-30

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting seven new individuals identified with COVID-19 in Juneau for April 29 and April 30. Four new cases were reported yesterday – two residents and two nonresidents. Public Health is attributing one resident case to community spread and the other to secondary transmission. One of the nonresidents is in the mining sector. Today’s three cases are resident cases, all under investigation.

The cluster associated with Thunder Mountain High School remains at eight cases; all eight have recovered. One of the resident cases yesterday is an individual at Sítʼ Eetí Shaanáx̱ – Glacier Valley School. One of the resident cases today is an individual at Floyd Dryden Middle School. Those who may have been exposed in the schools have already been directly contacted and have been given instructions to quarantine and test. Individuals who have not been identified as a close contact do not need to quarantine or be tested at this time. A close contact is considered being within six feet of someone with COVID-19 for a cumulative of 15 minutes or more per day.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 1,281 residents test positive for COVID-19 and 158 nonresidents. There are 14 active cases in Juneau and 1,420 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There is currently one person with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) reports 138 new people identified with COVID-19 – 136 are residents and two are nonresidents. Alaska has had 65,409 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 2,739 nonresidents.

Vaccine information

According to DHSS, as well as data reported from the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs:

• 18,860 people in Juneau have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. That’s 59.4 percent of Juneau’s total population.
• 16,730 have completed their vaccine series. That’s 52.7 percent of Juneau’s total population.

Statewide, 308,957 people have received their first dose, according to DHSS, and 263,324 are fully vaccinated.
