CBJ reports seven new COVID-19 cases in Juneau

October 22, 2020 – News

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting seven new individuals with COVID-19 in Juneau – five are residents and two are nonresidents. Public Health is attributing one resident case to secondary transmission, and the other four are under investigation. The two nonresidents are in the mining sector.

Of the new cases, the resident secondary transmission case is linked to other cases among Juneau’s vulnerable/unsheltered population, bringing that cluster total to 68 so far. The cluster includes family members, friends, individuals who work for a social service organization, and those who live with someone who works for one of these agencies. Tomorrow, the EOC is conducting another round of testing at AWARE, Housing First, the Glory Hall, and the cold weather shelter run by St. Vincent de Paul.

Yesterday, CBJ reported 11 new cases, eight of which were under investigation. Public Health is attributing three cases to community spread, one to secondary transmission, and the rest are still under investigation.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 416 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 104 nonresidents. There are 67 active cases in Juneau and 450 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There are currently five people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services today reports 210 new people with COVID-19 – all are residents. Alaska has had 11,837 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 1,040 nonresidents.
