CBJ reports seven new COVID-19 cases in Juneau

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting seven new Juneau residents with COVID-19. Public Health is attributing five of the cases to secondary transmission and two are under investigation. Four of the secondary cases are linked to the August social gathering, bringing that cluster total to 45 so far. Of the three new cases reported yesterday, Public Health is attributing two to community spread and one to secondary transmission.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 289 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 98 nonresidents. There are 30 active cases in Juneau and 356 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There are currently five people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 128 new people with COVID-19 – 127 are residents and one is a nonresident. Alaska has had 7,254 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 948 nonresidents.

The state is also reporting six additional deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 52. One of the deaths was recent – a male Anchorage resident in his 60s. Five of the deaths were not recent and were coded as COVID-19 deaths by CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics. Four of these five individuals died in Alaska: a male Anchorage resident in his 60s who died in July, a male Fairbanks resident in his 60s who died in August, a male Anchorage resident in his 50s who died in August, and a male resident of the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area in his 70s who died in August. One died out-of-state; a male in his 70s who had listed Soldotna as his place of residence.
