CBJ reports four new COVID-19 cases in Juneau

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting four new Juneau residents with COVID-19. All four cases are under investigation. Of the three new cases reported yesterday, Public Health is attributing two to community spread.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 279 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 98 nonresidents. There are 28 active cases in Juneau and 348 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There are currently four people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Two Juneau residents who’ve recently tested positive for COVID-19 are individuals who experience homelessness. Public Health has identified seven close contacts, who are currently in quarantine. The Emergency Operations Center conducted a round of testing at the Glory Hall last Friday, September 18. All 75 tests came back negative. As a safety precaution, the EOC is currently planning to conduct another round of testing for individuals without permanent housing this Friday.

CBJ’s numbers – on cumulative case counts, and active and recovered cases – differ from the Alaska Health and Social Services dashboard numbers due to more timely reporting. CBJ is in regular contact with the Public Health officials in Juneau, and CBJ’s numbers are based on information received directly from them.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 57 new people with COVID-19 – 56 are residents and one is a nonresidents. Alaska has had 7,004 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 937 nonresidents.
