CBJ reports five new COVID-19 cases in Juneau

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting five new individuals with COVID-19 in Juneau – four are residents and one is a nonresident. Public Health is attributing two of the resident cases to secondary transmission and the other two are under investigation. The nonresident case is under investigation as well.

The University of Alaska Southeast cluster is still at seven cases – one of the students returned to their home community in Alaska last week and the six other students are still isolating in a UAS residence hall. CBJ’s EOC is conducting another round of testing today at the residence hall; results will be available later this week.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 670 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 110 nonresidents. There are 53 active cases in Juneau and 723 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There is currently one person with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services today reports 637 new people with COVID-19 – 631 are residents and six are nonresidents. The state reported a new death – a male Anchorage resident in his 90s – bringing the total number of resident deaths to 99. Alaska has had 23,874 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 1,167 nonresidents.
