CBJ reports five new cases of COVID-19 in Juneau; latest cluster grows to 15

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting five new Juneau residents with COVID-19. All are individuals who experience homelessness and are linked to other cases among Juneau’s vulnerable population, bringing that cluster total to 15 so far.

Positive cases within the cluster are in isolation and close contacts are in quarantine. The EOC is in the process of standing up Centennial Hall as an additional quarantine and/or isolation facility, and may be utilizing it as soon as this weekend. The EOC has also been conducting COVID-19 tests today at Housing First, AWARE, and the Glory Hall.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 322 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 101 nonresidents. Combined, there are 31 active cases in Juneau and 390 individuals have recovered. There are currently two people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 174 new people with COVID-19 – 174 are residents and four are nonresidents. Alaska has had 9,182 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 994 nonresidents.
