CBJ reports eight new COVID-19 cases in Juneau from Oct. 7 & Oct. 8

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting eight new Juneau residents with COVID-19 – two were reported yesterday and six are new today. Of the two from yesterday, Public Health is attributing one case to secondary transmission and one is under investigation. The six individuals with COVID-19 reported today, including two who are currently at Lemon Creek Correctional Center, are all under investigation.

At least six individuals who’ve recently been diagnosed with COVID-19 are amongst Juneau’s vulnerable populations. Positive cases are in isolation and close contacts are in quarantine. The EOC is conducting regular testing of individuals among the vulnerable population at various emergency housing facilities.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 317 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 101 nonresidents. Combined, there are 30 active cases in Juneau and 386 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There are currently three people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 129 new people with COVID-19 – 123 are residents and six are nonresidents. The state reported a death yesterday and another new death today, bringing the total number of deaths to 60. Alaska has had 9,005 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 991 nonresidents.
