CBJ reports 58 new COVID-19 cases & one death for Aug. 14-16

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center reports 58 new individuals – 56 residents and 2 nonresidents – identified with COVID-19 for August 14 through August 16. CBJ also reports one new death in Juneau. The individual – a female Juneau resident in her eighties – died at Bartlett Regional Hospital Sunday evening, August 15, due to COVID-19. CBJ extends condolences to family members and friends of this individual.

Juneau has had seven COVID-19 deaths total since the start of the pandemic, two of which occurred outside of Alaska. CBJ is reporting this new death based on hospital reporting ahead of it being posted on the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services dashboard.

Of the 56 new resident cases, Public Health attributes 22 to secondary transmission, two to community spread, and the rest are under investigation. One of the resident cases is currently isolating outside of Juneau. The cluster associated with an out-of-town youth sports event is now at 22 cases – seven are active, 15 are recovered.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 1,788 residents test positive for COVID-19 and 217 nonresidents. There are 131 active cases and 1,867 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There are currently two people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 1,063 new people identified with COVID-19 in the past three days – 1,001 are residents and 62 are nonresidents. Alaska has had 77,343 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 3,542 nonresidents.
