CBJ reports 28 new COVID-19 cases in Juneau July 31 – August 2

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center reports 28 new individuals – 23 residents and five nonresidents – identified with COVID-19 in Juneau for July 31 through August 2. Of the resident cases, Public Health attributes four to community spread, seven to secondary transmission, one to out-of-state travel, and 11 are under investigation. Of the nonresident cases, one is a visitor, two are tourists and two are other sectors.

The cluster associated with a local restaurant is now at seven individuals – three are active and four have recovered.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 1,593 residents test positive for COVID-19 and 198 nonresidents. There are 87 active cases in Juneau and 1,699 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 751 new people identified with COVID-19 in the past two days – 703 are residents and 48 are nonresidents. Alaska has had 72,988 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 3,249 nonresidents.

Starting Monday, August 2, CBJ will provide this case count update five times a week – Monday through Friday. The change is being made due to the current Very High alert level for case activity in Juneau, as well as to mirror how often DHSS is issuing its COVID-19 updates.
