CBJ reports 12 new COVID-19 cases in Juneau

The City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center is reporting 12 new Juneau residents with COVID-19. Public Health is attributing one case to secondary transmission and the rest are under investigation. Due to a statewide backlog, it may be a few days before a contact tracer can follow up with those who test positive for COVID-19. Of the new cases, six are linked to other cases among Juneau’s vulnerable/unsheltered population, bringing that cluster total to 85 so far. Within the cluster, 23 cases are active and 62 have recovered. Those six cases were detected through a testing effort last Friday. The EOC conducted 140 COVID-19 tests at AWARE, Housing First, the Glory Hall, and the cold weather shelter run by St. Vincent de Paul. About half of the results from this testing effort are still pending.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 486 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March and 104 nonresidents. There are 95 active cases in Juneau and 492 individuals have recovered. All individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation. There are currently two people with COVID-19 hospitalized at Bartlett Regional Hospital.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services today reports 353 new people with COVID-19 – 350 are residents and three are nonresidents. The state also reports one new death, bringing the total number of deaths to 71. The person who died was a female resident of the Kenai Peninsula Borough-North in her 80s. Alaska has had 14,097 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 1,058 nonresidents.
