Capital Avenue Reconstruction project scheduled to start this week

April 12, 2021 – FYI

Work on the City and Borough of Juneau’s Capital Avenue Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin this week and is expected to continue through June. The project area includes Capital Avenue, between Willoughby Avenue and West Ninth Street. During construction, pedestrians and drivers will experience traffic changes. Please use extra caution when in the vicinity of the project and navigate around the site when possible.

Capital Avenue will be closed to through traffic – pedestrian and vehicular – between Willoughby Avenue and West Ninth Street. Access to Village Street will be available via Warrior Street, which will be opened to two-way traffic while Capital is closed. Except for short duration construction activities, the pedestrian corridor across Capital between West Eighth Street and Distin Avenue will remain open.

Work will include replacement of the water and sewer systems, installation of a new storm drain system, the addition of a new concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter, as well as replacement of the asphalt roadway. Work will begin at the Willoughby intersection and generally progress toward West Ninth.
