January 10, 2019 – News

The Juneau Assembly Human Resources Committee is meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall Conference Room 224 to interview seven applicants for the soon-to-be-vacant District 1 seat. Assemblymember Jesse Kiehl was recently elected to the State Senate Seat for District Q and will be taking office January 15. This meeting to interview applicants is open to the public until the committee shifts into Executive Session for deliberation, though applicants are asked to not sit in on other applicant interviews.

Here is the agenda for the meeting, https://bit.ly/2TEOjz9, and the planned schedule of interviews:

5:35 p.m. Meilani Schijvens
5:55 p.m. Eric Forst
6:15 p.m. Theresa Yvette Soutiere
6:35 p.m. Martin Stepetin Sr
6:55 p.m. Kate Troll
7:15 p.m. Christopher Peloso
7:35 p.m. Alicia Hughes-Skandijs

Following the interviews, the Assembly is scheduled to go into Executive Session to deliberate.

It is anticipated that the final decision will be announced and the new member sworn into office at a Special Assembly Meeting on Monday, January 14 following the anticipated resignation of Assemblymember Kiehl that same evening.

Per the CBJ Code 11.10.040(a), the appointed candidate will serve “until the next regularly scheduled election” in October of 2019, at which time the District 1 seat will be placed on the municipal ballot for the remaining year of the term.
