CBJ reports seven new cases of COVID-19 in Juneau

The City and Borough of Juneau’s Emergency Operations Center is reporting seven new cases today – five resident cases and two nonresident cases. The individuals involved in these cases received positive results over the weekend. Both of the new nonresident cases are visitors to Juneau. Public Health officials have initiated contact investigations, and will notify and quarantine additional individuals as appropriate.

One of the new resident cases is an employee at the Juneau School District. The employee is not currently in the workplace and will only return to work after Public Health officials determine there is no further risk of transmission. Public Health has reviewed the case and there was no potential COVID-19 exposure to other district employees or the public.

Cumulatively, Juneau has had 82 residents test positive for COVID-19 since March. Of those, 13 cases are active and 67 have recovered. A total of 60 nonresidents have tested positive for COVID-19 in Juneau; 31 of these cases are still active. Because they’re still infectious, all individuals with active cases of COVID-19 are in isolation.

Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 104 new cases today – 98 resident cases and six nonresident cases.  Alaska has had 2,622 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 – 1,784 are active – and a total of 584 nonresidents.
