Author, cartoonist Randall Munroe visiting Juneau Nov. 23 thanks to library video

November 8, 2019 – News

Randall Munroe – a former NASA roboticist, creator of the webcomic xkcd, and author of How To: Absurd Scientific Advice for Common Real-World Problems – is coming to Juneau for a Juneau Public Libraries event on November 23.

Munroe recently went on a 14 city book tour to promote his book “How To” and created a contest to go to a fifteenth city. The challenge was to write the best story using nothing but book covers. The Juneau Public Libraries partnered with Alaska Robotics to enter the contest, and won! The entry was submitted in four videos.

Munroe will be at the Andrew P. Kashevaroff State Library, Archives, and Museum in Juneau on Saturday, November 23:

  • 1:00-2:30 p.m. Talk followed by a Q&A
  • 2:30-3:30 p.m. Reception and book signing. Books will be available to purchase from Alaska Robotics at that time.

Books are also available for check out from the Juneau Public Libraries.

This event is a collaborative effort between Juneau Public Libraries, Alaska Robotics, the Alaska State Library, Friends of the Alaska State Library, Archives & Museum, and members of the public who showed up to create a story using nothing but book titles.
