Information
On August 7, the CBJ Assembly passed Resolution 3036(b) confirming the declaration of local emergency and requesting state and federal assistance.
The Mendenhall River banks remain highly unstable. All individuals are strongly advised to stay away from the river to ensure their safety and avoid obstructing response efforts.
- Residents who have loose or spilling fuel tanks and/or other hazardous spill situations should contact the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation Spill Prevention and Response hotline at 1-800-478-9300.
- The CBJ Community Development Department has authorized emergency bank stabilization to protect immediate threats to property and safety. CBJ asks that the department be notified of any work being done as soon as possible and CDD staff will work through the permitting process congruent with the work. See Mendenhall River Emergency Bank Stabilization – Information for Property Owners.
- For Real Property Exemption Disaster Relief, please see the guidelines and application.
- The Salvation Army is distributing food boxes and vouchers for clothing and household goods to impacted residents, and accepting donations. St. Vincent de Paul is accepting donations of clothing and goods and distributing them to impacted residents. The American Red Cross Alaska Region is accepting financial donations guaranteed to stay in Alaska and providing trained volunteer support. See Community Assistance to find out how to donate or request assistance.
- Electrical power and utility service has largely been restored. If you are still without power, please contact AEL&P at 907-780-2222 during business hours and 907-586-AELP after business hours. If you need assistance with drinking water or sewer, please call the CBJ Utility at 907-586-0393.
