The National Weather Service Forecasts-

TODAY...RAIN...DIMINISHING IN THE MORNING. AREAS OF FOG. HIGHS
AROUND 42. EAST WIND 10 MPH.

TONIGHT...PATCHY FOG. RAIN LIKELY LATE. LOWS AROUND 39.
LIGHT WINDS.

WEDNESDAY...PATCHY FOG IN THE MORNING. RAIN. HIGHS AROUND 42.
SOUTHEAST WIND 10 MPH.

Last week we had quite a bit of weather. We received nearly 5\" of rain to the top of our Mountain Starting Zones. This put is into a widespread natural avalanche cycle. Most all of the Urban Avalanche Paths saw activity buying down the danger from a Large to Extreme avalanche by reducing weak layers and mass in the starting zones.

The snowpack consolidated, settled and bonded quite a bit during this event.

Todays primary concern is above freezing temperatures to summit once again with low volumes of rain.

Be aware that areas on steep open faces, and in places without anchors there is still a possibility of small wet avalanches. There is also a possibility of glide avalanches in places where you see the glide cracks opening up and significant creep in the snowpack.

Overall danger is low... yet be aware that there is lingering danger that is very hard to predict due to the nature of the possible events.

Avoid spending time under terrain that is showing signs of glide.

Should any slides occur I do not expect them to be large enough to affect structures in the urban environment.

Tip:

creep - the slow, continuous, glacier-like downhill deformation of the snow cover, as a result of gravity-induced internal snow motion. This does not include the downhill motion of the snow cover relative to the ground, which is known as glide.

creep tension - tensile stress in snow caused by variations in creep velocity.

glide - The slow, downhill movement of the snow cover over the ground surface. May be accelerated by the presence of water in the form of rain.
