If you missed the regular candidate filing period, you still have an opportunity to run in the October 6, 2026, CBJ Regular Municipal Election as a write-in candidate. Your name will not be printed on the ballot, but can be written in by voters.

Beginning Friday, July 31, prospective write-in candidates may file Declaration of Candidacy and Alaska Public Offices Commission financial disclosure forms with the Municipal Clerk’s Office. Unlike candidates who filed during the regular filing period, write-in candidates are not required to submit a nominating petition with voter signatures. Write-in candidates must file by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Preliminary unofficial results for the 2026 CBJ Regular Municipal Election including all ballots received and verified through Monday, October 5, are now posted HERE.

October 6, 2026, was Election Day for the CBJ Regular Municipal Election, conducted as a by-mail election. Ballots were mailed to voters on September 18 and began returning on September 21.  To be counted, all ballots were required to be returned by 8 p.m. or postmarked on Election Day. 

Based on the trends of previous elections, the preliminary unofficial results now posted are expected to represent approximately 55-60% of the total ballot count. 

Ballots cast on Election Day at Vote Centers, placed in Ballot Drop Boxes, or mailed and postmarked by Election Day are still being processed. A second set of unofficial results will be posted on Friday, October 9, with additional updates to follow as needed until certification. 

As part of the review process, cure letters are being sent to voters to ensure any missing information or signature remedies are addressed so those ballots can be approved for counting. Voters are encouraged to watch their mail and respond as soon as they receive a cure letter to make sure their ballot can be counted.  

The Canvass Review Board will meet October 19–20 to review and certify the election. Final official results will be posted once certification is complete on October 20. Certification may be delayed by up to three days on a case-by-case basis as may be required.

The candidate filing period for the City and Borough of Juneau’s October 6, 2026 Regular Municipal Election is currently open and will close Monday, July 27, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. Candidates must file all required paperwork with the City Clerk’s Office by the deadline. Late filings cannot be accepted.

The following offices are up for election:

• One (1) Assembly Areawide Seat (3-year term)
• One (1) Assembly District 1 Seat (3-year term)
• One (1) Assembly District 2 Seat (3-year term)
• Two (2) Board of Education Seats (3-year term)

To become a certified candidate, the City Clerk’s Office must receive printed copies of the following completed documents:

• Declaration of Candidacy
• Alaska Public Offices Commission Public Official Financial Disclosure
• Nominating Petition with signatures from at least 25 registered Juneau voters
• Acceptance of Nomination

All required forms are included in the candidate filing packets and must be completed and delivered to the City Clerk’s Office, 155 Heritage Way, Juneau, AK 99801.

The Municipal Clerk has certified the proposed Mill Rate Cap Charter Amendment Petition as sufficient under the requirements of the CBJ Charter. The petitioners’ committee submitted petition books containing 2,986 signatures, and after review and verification by the Clerk’s Office, the petition met the required threshold of 2,566 certified signatures.

The Certification of Petition has been issued and is available on the CBJ Elections webpage. Unlike initiative petitions, charter amendment petitions are not subject to Assembly action following certification. Pursuant to the CBJ Charter, the proposed Charter Amendment will be placed directly before the voters at the next regular election.

The Mill Rate Cap Charter Amendment will appear on the October 6, 2026 Municipal Election ballot.
