Juneau voters are beginning to receive their ballots for the 2022 CBJ Regular Municipal Election – but voter information guides are still on the way. If you’re planning to read up on the four ballot propositions up for vote this year, keep an eye on your mailbox over the next few days for a convenient paper copy of the voter guide. Additional paper copies will be available beginning Monday, September 19, at all Juneau Public Library branches and at City Hall in the Seward Street entrance foyer.

Secure CBJ ballot drop boxes are now open around the clock until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4. Vote Centers, where voters can receive voter assistance, request and vote a replacement ballot, or drop off voted ballots, will be open beginning September 19. CBJ ballot drop boxes open today, September 15, at 3:00 p.m. as the voting period begins for the 2022 City and Borough of Juneau Regular Municipal Election. Ballots were mailed Tuesday to all registered Juneau voters at the address on file with the Alaska State Division of Elections and voters are encouraged to check their mailboxes for ballots arriving as early as today.

Beginning this afternoon, voters will be able to drop of their voted ballots at secure drop boxes in the following locations:

Auke Bay-Statter Harbor Boat Launch Parking Lot
(NOT the Harbor Office parking lot)
11801 Glacier Highway, Auke Bay

Douglas Library/Fire Hall Community Building
1016 3rd Street, Douglas
Drop boxes will be open until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Voters will also receive a copy of the 2022 voter information guide in a separate mailing. The voter information guide includes information on each of the four ballot propositions as well as a sample ballot. The guide is available online at bit.ly/3QLJzVh.

The Municipal Clerk’s Office is currently recruiting civic-minded Juneau residents to assist in conducting this year’s municipal election.

Each year, CBJ municipal elections are conducted smoothly and successfully thanks to a workforce of dedicated individuals committed to our democratic process. Election workers are responsible for a wide variety of tasks, from operating vote centers to serving on the canvass review board. Training begins as early as next week – so whether you are an experienced election worker or interested in getting involved for the first time, we encourage you to apply!

Positions include:

• Election Call Center Workers
• Vote Center Workers
• Ballot Drop Box Teams
• Canvass Review Board Workers
• On-Call Election Workers

Exact dates, times, and duration of work will vary depending on need. Both short-term (1-2 days) and long-term (3-4 weeks) positions are available, and applicants available on a part-time basis are welcome.

With the exception of on-call election workers, all positions operate on scheduled shifts. On-call election workers will be available to fill unexpected shift vacancies or cover other duties that may arise during the election period. All positions will include training.

Compensation begins at approximately $16.00/hour. Election workers whose duties include driving (for example, to deliver election supplies from one vote center to another) will be reimbursed for mileage.
 
Election Worker Qualifications

All election workers must:

• be registered to vote in Alaska;
• enjoy interaction with the public; and
• be able to perform duties in a neutral/non-partisan fashion.

In addition, on-call election workers must be licensed drivers and have access to reliable transportation.

An election worker should not work or volunteer on the campaign of a candidate or a ballot initiative that appears on the municipal ballot.  In addition, an election worker cannot have a familial relationship with any candidate on the municipal ballot. A familial relationship includes:

• mother, mother-in-law, stepmother;
• father, father-in-law, stepfather;
• sister, sister-in-law, stepsister;
• brother, brother-in-law, stepbrother;
• spouse; or
• person sharing the same living quarters.
