CBJ seeks comments on proposed winter closure of Montana Creek Rd to motorized vehicles

August 26, 2020 – Notices for Public Comment

The City and Borough of Juneau Parks and Recreation Department is seeking public comments on a proposal to close a portion of Montana Creek Road to motorized vehicles during winter months. The department is accepting public comment through this submission form until September 30.

The proposal was made by members of the public and the Juneau Nordic Ski Club. If approved, Montana Creek Road would be closed to motorized vehicles November 1 through April 1, extending from the gate by the Hank Harmon Rifle Range to the end of the road. Though Parks & Recreation customarily locks the gate on November 1, motorized vehicles are currently allowed. Submit public comments on the proposal here.

After the public comment period, Parks & Recreation staff will make a recommendation to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee. The committee is tentatively scheduled to discuss the issue during its October meeting, the date of which is not yet set. The committee will then forward its recommendation to the City Manager, who will make the final decision.

For more information and background on the proposal, go to its project page.

Please note, comments previously submitted to Parks & Recreation will be considered and there’s no need to resubmit them.
