With heavy snow and low visibility, avoid unnecessary travel

Juneau is currently experiencing winter storm conditions, including heavy snow and low visibility. CBJ Streets is working hard to clear the roads, but driving conditions remain poor in many areas. Please avoid unnecessary travel whenever possible for the safety of yourself and others.

If driving is necessary, use extreme caution.

Please note that today Capital Transit is running on winter routes, with service suspended on Cordova Street, Franklin and Fourth Street downtown. For more information, visit juneaucapitaltransit.org.

Crow Hill Drive Construction Begins June 15

Construction will begin on Crow Hill Drive Thursday, June 15, and continue throughout the summer until approximately September 15. Work will include repaving the road, replacing the water main, and improving the area drainage.

During this time, there may be traffic and water service interruptions while new infrastructure is installed. Please follow any posted signs and guidance and stay alert for crews at work in the area.

Basin Road Trestle Open to Pedestrian and Vehicle Traffic

The Basin Road Trestle Bridge is now open to all traffic following successful structural repairs.

The trestle was closed to vehicle traffic in early 2023 following a rock slide. Additional repairs to the guardrail will take place later this year.

CBJ Engineering and Public Works appreciates the patience and understanding of the public during the repair process for this popular roadway.

Construction on Harris Street Begins May 10

The City and Borough of Juneau and Coogan Construction will begin work on the Harris Street Reconstruction Project on Wednesday, May 10. Work is expected to continue into September.

The project will reconstruct both Harris Street from 4th Street to 7th Street and 7th Street from Harris Street to Gold Street.  Please follow all traffic control signage in this area as sections of the roads will periodically be closed to traffic.

The project includes replacement of the road base, sewer system, water system, and storm system, as well as new pavement, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and other miscellaneous work.

Revised Traffic Pattern on Calhoun Avenue Starting April 26

The Calhoun Avenue & W. 7th Street intersection will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning Wednesday, April 26, until approximately Wednesday, May 10. The closure is part of the Calhoun Avenue Phase II Reconstruction Project.

During this closure, Indian Street and a portion of W. 8th Street will be temporarily opened to two-way traffic. The contractor will reopen the Calhoun Avenue intersection as soon as possible to restore the typical traffic patterns.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project zone, including the Willoughby stairs and overpass. Updated maps will be provided as work progresses. Please obey all construction signage.
