Juneau Pools fall swim lessons begin with Session 1 for tots, preschoolers, youth, and adults at Dimond Park Aquatic Center (DPAC) and Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool (AGB). This session will include a new Safe Starts program for both Preschool and Youth. Registration opens on Monday, August 17, at noon, and classes begin in early September. Register online under the “Juneau Pools” tab. Registration is not accepted over the phone, in person, or in advance. 

Safe Starts Program 

Safe Starts is a new parent & child water confidence program designed to introduce children and their families to swimming in a supportive, low-pressure environment. This program encourages students to learn with and from their parent or guardian while slowly incorporating more independence and group-like participation. 

This program targets families who have been hesitant to enroll in traditional swimming lessons or whose children may benefit from additional support before entering a standard group lesson. Each class will consist of 3 to 5 students, each accompanied by one parent or guardian, and instruction provided by a certified swimming instructor. 

DPAC Classes & Schedule 

Preschool Levels 1-3 (ages 3 to 5), Youth Levels 1-4 (ages 6 to 12), and Adult (13+) lessons will run from September 1 through 24 on Tuesdays and Thursdays for $96 plus tax. Preschool and Youth lessons will be between 3:30 and 7 p.m., and Adult lessons will be from 7:15 to 8 p.m. 

Parent and Tot and Safe Starts will be held on Saturdays from September 12 through October 17 between 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. for $72 plus tax. Parent and Tot lessons are for children ages 6 months to 3 years, and Safe Starts will have both a Preschool and Youth group. 

AGB Classes & Schedule 

Preschool Levels 1-3 (ages 3 to 5) and Youth Levels 1-4 (ages 6 to 12) will run from August 31 through September 23 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Lessons will be held between 4 and 6:30 p.m. for $84 plus tax. This session at AGB will consist of only 7 lessons due to Labor Day on Monday, September 7.

Registration opens on Friday, July 24, at 12 p.m. Visit the City and Borough of Juneau’s Parks & Recreation online catalog and click on the “Juneau Pools” tab for more details and to sign up. 

The total cost for session 4 is $96 plus tax. Registration includes eight 30-minute classes held Monday through Thursday mornings between 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. from August 3 through 13. 

Registration for session 4 will be open on July 24. Scholarships are available through Zach Gordon Youth Services.

The total cost for Session 2 is $96 plus tax. Session 2 includes eight 30-minute classes held at Augustus G. Brown Pool between July 13 through August 5. Lessons will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings starting between 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. 

The total cost for Session 3 is $96 plus tax. This includes eight 30-minute classes held at Dimond Park Aquatic Center between July 13 through 23. Lessons will take place Monday through Thursday mornings starting between 8 to 10:15 a.m. 

Registration for both sessions will be open on July 2. Scholarships are available at bit.ly/ZGYCscholarship.

The Dimond Park Aquatic Center (DPAC) and Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool (AGB) will open with limited hours on high school graduation day and Memorial Day. Hours will be as follows:  

Sunday, May 24: DPAC closed, AGB open normal hours 

Monday, May 25: DPAC holiday hours from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., AGB closed
