• Supports responsible use of natural resources: Juneau is a unique place, where urban life meets wilderness, and full-time residents live alongside seasonal visitors. No, the City and Borough of Juneau has had a Comprehensive Plan since 1965. Over the years, the plan has been updated and expanded to reflect the city’s changing needs, rolling in smaller neighborhood and focus plans, such the Juneau Economic Development Plan and Blueprint Downtown Area Plan. The most recent update was in 2013.

Juneau has experienced changes since the last update, including a pandemic, recurring flooding, and fluctuating tourism, that affects our economy, housing, and daily lives. We need to create new approaches and find practical solutions. Over the next three years, we’ll work together to create a bold and innovative Comprehensive Plan that captures our community’s vision, sets clear goals, and outlines actions to build a resilient and vibrant future for Juneau.

The Comp Plan helps shape Juneau — from the types of housing available to the places you shop, work, and spend time with family and friends. It influences decisions about parks, schools, roads, and public transportation. The plan helps protect our access to natural resources and supports the local economy. By guiding how the city develops and changes, the Comp Plan positions Juneau to continue to be a great place to live, with opportunities and services that reflect the community’s values and priorities.
