WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate must be dependable and a self-starter.  We are looking for someone who has a basic understanding of cleaning procedures who can fill in when JPD’s primary Building Custodian is absent, as well as, assist with special projects as needed.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position will work varying hours depending on need. Typical hours when working as the back-up Building Custodian are between 3:00pm-12:00am. Other hours will depend on project times. Your office would be located in Lemon Creek at the Juneau Police Department.

Job Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Duties will vary but could include the need for you to sweep, dust, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors; wash and spot clean interior windows, doors, walls, showers, sinks, mirrors, fixtures, and furniture; clean and disinfect common use areas, such as, door knobs, cabinet handles, and stair railings; clean and disinfect public restrooms, staff restrooms, holding cells, urinals and toilets; clean and disinfect sinks in kitchen, drinking fountains, staff hallways, and conference rooms; vacuum, shampoo, and spot clean carpeting; empty all trash receptacles and interior recycle receptacles; replace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, toilet tissue, paper towel, trash receptacle liners, and soap dispensers. You may be required to setup, arrange, and take down tables, chairs, platforms, portable fixtures, and furniture for special events.

For exterior duties, you may clean sidewalks by sweeping and power washing; shovel snow, chip ice, and spread salt on walkways; empties ashtrays, trash receptacles, and pick up trash from grounds; contribute to building security by securing doors and windows, and reporting anything suspicious or out of the norm; tighten and replace nuts, bolts, screws, and other hardware fixtures and fasteners.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:       None

Experience:     Three months of janitorial and cleaning experience in commercial settings involving the use of special cleaning products such as sanitizing solutions and solvents, or carpet shampooing equipment.

Other:             Possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and for continued employment.

NOTE:               Some positions may require an Alaska Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.

APSIN
Please be aware – this position involves working around staff who access the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN).  A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN or work around APSIN confidential information. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.  Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.

Juneau Police Department Requirements: Ability and willingness to work shifts, holidays, weekends, scheduled and emergency overtime, and be available for required on-call duty; attend local and out of area training courses as authorized and required; willingness to wear a uniform and comply with department grooming standards; maintain minimum unscheduled absences and a high rate of attendance; maintain a positive attitude and be flexible to change.

NOTE: Although marijuana usage is legal in Alaska, such drug use is not federally legal nor is its use allowed per departmental policy.  Furthermore, an applicant with marijuana use within the past one (1) year will be automatically disqualified.
