Eaglecrest Mountain Safety Manager

Full Time 40 Hours per week $52,478 - $60,860 Annually (DOE)

We are looking for a charismatic and enthusiastic leader that has the ability to unify staff around the tasks at hand. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate extensive experience with all common avalanche mitigation techniques and thrive on the challenge of working long hours in extreme weather. Being a progressive thinker and collaborative team member with drive to meet and exceed the evolving needs of our guests and staff is a desired trait. The successful candidate should be an expert skier or snowboarder with the ability to safely navigate all terrain in extreme weather.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
During the winter season, this position works Wednesday through Sunday 7:00am to 4:00pm. Extra hours will be mandated for special holiday periods. During the Summer Season, the Position will generally work Monday through Friday 8am – 4:30pm. Your office will be in the Fish Creek Lodge at Eaglecrest Ski Area

Job Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

In this position, you will be responsible for coordinating, supervising and assisting in all daily ski patrol and mountain safety operations including, but not limited to, avalanche hazard reduction, first aid, lift evacuation, risk management, mountain bike safety, summer activity safety and guest service. The position will be responsible for tracking all departmental expenses and drafting the annual department budget in collaboration with the General Manager. The position will ensure that the department is properly staffed to meet the growing needs of the mountain and ensure all staff are properly certified and plans for continuing education for all levels of ski patrol staff are properly carried out. During the winter, the position will clear the mountain to open on a daily basis after checking terrain and trails for safety and ensuring proper rescue equipment is staged and ready for response. During the summer season, the position will clear each activity center for daily operations. The position, in collaboration with the General Manager, will take lead in developing new safety plans for summer operation activities. With the help of consultants, the position will research and procure new avalanche control equipment and develop procedures for controlling avalanche hazard in new ski terrain that currently lies outside of Ski Area Boundaries.

Minimum Qualifications

DO I HAVE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS JOB – OUR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:      

 

Five (5) Ski Seasons as a Ski Patroller or Ski Guide that included working in an avalanche hazard mitigation program.

Six (6) months of Lead or Supervisory experience (can be concurrent with above and may be in a different field).

Note: A Season is defined as 3 months of full-time work.

Certifications:

At Time of Appointment:

  • Valid Alaska EMT-1 at time of appointment and for continued employment.
  • Proof of completion of National Avalanche School Phase 1 or the equivalent (as determined by the Eaglecrest General Manager) at time of appointment.

After Appointment:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals certification within one month of hire and for continued employment.
  • Must become a National Ski Patrol Member within first year of appointment and for continued employment.
  • Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) medical certification within first year of appointment and for continued employment.
  • Obtain an Avalanche Pro 2 certificate or the equivalent (as determined by the Eaglecrest General Manager) within the first year of hire and for continued employment.
